ESA would like to invite you to the Final Presentation Webinar of the ARTES Future Preparation (FP) activity Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for Satellite Telecommunications.
This Webinar will take place on the 9th of June at 10:00 CEST and it will present the results and key lessons learnt of the two parallel contracts lead by Joanneum Research (AT) and GMV (ES), that performed this study.
The Webinar is scheduled to last a maximum of 1h 30min, with 2 presentations of 30min (one for each contract), followed by a short Q&A session.
Activity Scope
The objectives of the activity have been to investigate the applicability of ML or AI techniques in the overall domain of satellite communications and to further prototype and demonstrate a limited number of Proof of Concepts (PoCs).
Background
Machine learning and artificial intelligence (ML/AI) techniques are increasingly used in applications such as image and speech recognition, traffic prediction, product recommendations, self-driving cars, virtual chatbots, medical diagnosis and automatic language translation among many others. The added value of ML and AI is also explored for the management and operations of the increasingly complex terrestrial communication networks. The interest in these technologies is supported by a number of open source ML/AI tools and frameworks which allow for rapid prototyping of proof-of-concepts. In addition, a large number of low-cost cloud-based ML/AI services - supported by powerful computing hardware – makes such services easily accessible.
In the space domain, the use of ML/AI is already being explored across all space sectors, including human space flight and robotic exploration, earth observation applications, navigation, satellite operations, manufacturing technology and telecommunications.
