S-Band Experimental Campaigns event showcases four activities

The results of several ESA projects running mobile satellite system activities relating to S-Band systems will be presented. These projects include:

J-ORTIGIA: “S-band satellite broadcasting experimentation campaign through W2A satellite
This is an experimentation activity aiming at the validation of the DVB-SH system using the W2A satellite. For more information on this project, click here .

DENISE: “S-Band Interactive System Definition and Proof-of-Concept Demonstration”
The objective of DENISE phase 1 was to define a suitable system architecture enabling efficient resource usage and support of different categories of services such as interactive broadcast, mobile messaging, and bi-directional real-time communications for management of emergency situations. MiLADY: “Mobile satellite channeL with Angle DiversitY”
Future broadcasting to mobile services may consider satellite angle diversity to help increasing service availability in challenging scenarios for which conventional diversity techniques, such as time diversity or frequency diversity fail. For that reason, an experimental campaign for gathering relevant experimental data and improve angle diversity models has been carried out in the MILADY project. CME: “Channel Measurement Equipment”
The goal of this project is the development of a channel measurement equipment useful for:
• Characterisation of the mobile channel for satellite based systems including hybrid systems with complementary ground components.
• Verification of the QoS during the system deployment,
• Verification of the antenna subsystem of new receivers.

This joint final presentation event begins at 9:00 with J-Ortigia, followed by DENISE. Afternoon presentations begin at 14:00 with MiLADY, followed by CME. The event is expected to wrap up at 17:45.
