Second SAT-AIS information workshop announced for 2 September

Representatives from European and Canadian industry interested in participating are encouraged to register via email to annamaria.giuliani@esa.int by 30th July 2010.

The ESA-EMSA (European Maritime Safety Agency) plan for the ultimate SAT-AIS envisages the evolution of a hybrid system that takes into account what has been developed or what is in the process of being developed therefore ESA is keen to maintain a dialogue with European and Canadian industry to facilitate this exchange of information.

A European satellite based AIS will enable the concept of monitoring ships on a global basis and will be beneficial to many European entities, particularly in assisting them in law enforcement, fisheries control campaigns, maritime border control operations, maritime safety and security issues including marine pollution response, search and rescue and anti-piracy.

A representative from EMSA will participate to clarify user needs/demands and the link to other maritime ship positioning systems.
