With over 250 participants from 18 countries coming together at ESTEC in Netherlands, the annual event for Industry and ESA experts in Satellite Communications featured a 15% increase in attendance, making it the most successful edition to date.
Spanning five days, the conference kicked off with presentations on the achievements of the ARTES Future Preparations and Core Competitiveness Programmes, followed by an overview of the Satcom market and topics of general interest, such as M2M/IoT, mega-constellations and a panel on the future of 5G communications.
The following days consisted of parallel sessions, specialized presentations, as well as keynotes and panel discussions, covering a wide range of topics within the following areas:
- Systems, networking, management and antennas
- New Space
- Payload technology
- Platform
- Ground Segment
- System & Networks, coding, modulation and access.
A successful first at the 2019 FPDs was the panel on New Space, where ESA moderated the discussion between highly regarded industry specialists, highlighting the importance of constructive disruption and scalable telecommunication projects. In addition, 12 sector newcomers (SMEs and established players alike) were able to pitch their novel ideas in front of established industry players, in the space of two minutes and just one slide each.
The FPD organising team wishes to thank everyone for their support. We are all now looking forward to the 2020 edition, when the outcome of ESA Space19+ will be known, making attendance at the Final Presentation Days even more essential for those wishing to stay at the cutting edge of innovation.
