ESA Telecom welcomed at SAT Expo 2003

The SAT Expo 2003 trade fair held in Vicenza Italy last October 2 to 4 attracted a large group of industry experts and members of the general public.

Many persons from companies with ESA Telecom funded projects were present to demonstrate their projects and answer questions. Among these was The Southwest Regional Authority's Project Manager Sinéad Crowley (see photo right), "I'm impressed by the ESA stand, it is certainly giving us the opportunity to reach others in the industry."

Michel Durand from the project Mediaspace said, "This has been an excellent experience." Referring to ESA Telecom's series of live demonstrations which showcased examples of tele-conferencing, he added, "I think a lot of people were impressed by such things as real-time services, video streaming, and conferencing. In all it was a very well done presentation."

ESA's reason for coming to SAT Expo was part of its ongoing support through the USO to aid companies in developing and marketing their projects. Giovanni Garafalo, who helped organize the event for ESA Telecom noted: "Everything's gone very well. It's very busy, I'm very very pleased with the number of people who have come here and the interest they have shown."

Emphasising the point, Yann Lapeyre from the I-Discare, an ESA Telecom telemedicine project concluded that: "The whole event is going to be very useful for our project. It's been very productive."

From Luxembourg, Cybercultus's Farid Meinköhn especially liked the ESA stand. "It is very nice, I particularly enjoyed the fact that there were two big screens running different applications.

A highlight of the conference was a speech on Galileo by Claudio Mastracci, ESA's Director of Applications. The title of his speech was 'Local and Global: Embarking upon a New Era'.

Similarly, on display was ESA's Multimedia Van (see photo left) which attracted a crowd of curious visitors. The van debuted last July and is a demonstration vehicle for UMTS technology and a multitude of advanced mobile satellite applications and services.

During the three day event, ESA Telecom representatives distributed over 300 copies of the CONNECT Newsletter and 300 User Support Office brochures. Additionally, 500 of the new ESA Telecom brochures were also handed out to eager recipients.
