Expand your satcom knowledge through TIA´s online training course

Known as the Web Based Training System (WBTS), this e-training course located at http://telecom.esa.int/wbts provides clear and practical information about satellite communications whether you're new to satcoms or whether you're an experienced professional.

The training is organised into easy-to-follow modules, complete with animations and interactive features. Areas covered include:

  • Earth segment including subsystems
  • Satellite orbits
  • Modulation
  • Satellite subsystems, inlcuding multispot antennas and active antennas.

Three different sessions are offered based on your knowledge and satcom experience. These sessions are:

  • Basic – This session is designed primarily for non-technical staff with little or no experience within the satellite communication industry. It is a learning tool for sales, marketing, managerial or administrational people requiring an introductory insight into satellite communication and its uses.
  • Intermediate – This session is designed for technical staff without experience in the satcom field. It corresponds to technical staff new to the satellite industry, for example an IT engineer who requires a more in-depth appreciation of satellite technology.
  • Advanced – This session is for technical staff with working experience in satcom. It corresponds to graduate engineers who are interested in acquiring knowledge in satellite communications.

Users go through training elements that correspond to the selected session. Within these training elements are a series of interactive modules or lessons. Users then have access to a self-assessment or self-test to help you remember what you have learned.

The WBTS is available free of charge and users to not have to complete the training in one sitting. You can return to it at any time and restart where you left off.
