Inmedia to present Final Results on Indigo

Kingston Inmedia of the UK, currently operates digital broadcast facilities for the Direct To Home (DTH) market. The ESA Telecom funded project INDIGO (INtegrated DIGital Overlay) extends these existing facilities to address the newly emerging Captive Audience Network (CAN) applications.

Indigo supports advanced multimedia services over satellite. It automatically uploads, stores, organises and schedules digital media for both the playout market and for applications such as Digital Signage which can distribute electronic media to remote sites for local playback to specific audiences.

The development has addressed the following five applications:

  • Central casting, a method of distributing content to cable-head ends including the implementation of playout servers at the cable head end
  • Digital archive, required for playout facility to store digitally content for the long term without requiring deletion and therefore "re-ingest"
  • Remote ingest, enabling customers to ingest content into the Indigo system remotely
  • Remote scheduling, allowing customers to create and manage their own playlists remotely and programme schedules
  • Enhanced playout, to reduce the cost of entry for playout services by taking advantage of the new technology available and including basic graphic overlay features

The presentation of the findings of this study will take place at ESA/ESTEC Noordwijk the Netherlands, on 5 April 2005 at 14:30.
