Presentations now available for the Advanced Physical and MAC layer Techniques for Interactive Networks Workshop

The event was organized by Rita Rinaldo (Technical and Quality Management Directorate D/TEC) in coordination with the Directorate of Telecommunication and Navigation (D/TEN). In total over thirty people attended the workshop, which focused not only on completed and on-going projects supported by ESA, but also on future ESA activities in the domain of advanced physical layer and access techniques for interactive networks.

Also of key interest to participants were presentations from Alcatel Alenia Space (AAS) from France on results of the European Union's MOWGLI project and the AAS vision on DVB-RCS systems evolution. Another topic of significance involved presentations on Generic Stream Encapsulation (GSE) for the return channel of satellite systems.

Rita Rinaldo, Communication System Engineer and Technical Officer of the ESA activities presented at the workshop, clarified the role of ESA in supporting risky technological developments for improving industry competitiveness: "The presented R&D activities results have shown the large performance improvement, which novel concepts and techniques can bring to broadband communication systems. Satcom key players attending the workshop have appreciated the technical quality and innovation content of the projects, expressing the wish that such promising technological developments can become part of future commercial products."
