The subject of this project was the development of the platform products for the Airbus Defence and Space telecommunication Eurostar 3000 EOR satellite product.
The Eurostar 3000 EOR platform provides the mechanical structure, thermal control and propulsion capability for the satellite. As such, it is in fact a collection of highly interactive sub-products which can be conveniently considered together as a mechanical platform. It is also physically partitioned into two separate modules, Service Module (SM) and Communications Module (CM) which have been defined to facilitate two parallel streams before final integration into a single satellite product.
Product Development Phase |
Description |
Partial Electric Orbit Raising (P-EOR) and Full Electric Orbit Raising (F-EOR) Platform concepts |
The scope of this phase was to establish the definition for a partial electric orbit raising (P-EOR) configuration building on the E3000SXL and E3000LX platforms. These concepts proceeded through to design maturity and Airbus reserve the right to implement these platforms but in the short term there is a clear shift in the market need towards full EOR (F-EOR). The concept for this was also established as part of this work package.
|
Full Electric Orbit Raising (F-EOR) Core Product |
The scope of this phase created, developed and verified a ‘core’ mechanical product for the E3000 EOR variants optimised for payload capacity. The development of this ‘core’ product has been completed and made applicable to both light and heavy telecom mechanical versions. The work packages also created, developed and verified all necessary thermal and propulsion elements including the 166L propellant tank.
|
Full Electric Orbit Raising (F-EOR) Heavy Product |
This phase created, developed and verified the additional specific elements required to create the heavy version of the product.. |
Full Electric Orbit Raising (F-EOR) Light Product |
This phase created, developed and verified the additional specific elements required to create the light version of the product. |
The figure below illustrates the product developments that resulted from this development programme and were all required to generate both the ‘light’ and ‘heavy’ versions of the electric orbit raising mechanical platform.
Planned Activities have been completed.
All four elements of the contract have completed.
