eWave VideoServer

Objectives

eWave VideoServer is an interactive tele-learning system based on MHP. It is especially designed to educate operators of highly complex technical equipment. Examples of potential users of this system are listed below:

• Airlines, airplane manufacturers: training lessons for maintenance personnel


• Car manufacturers: training lessons for dealer’s workshop personnel


• Industrial robotics: simulation of complex use scenarios

An operator can work with the technical equipment by using the simulated user interface on his TV. A high quality video image provides a detailed view of the equipment. Direct connection of sensors allows visualization of main parameters on the TV screen. Through the standard IP return channel it is possible to interact with the equipment and to simulate failure situations, enable failure identification and perform recovery actions.

Challenges

The key issue in this project is to build up a demonstrator for a tele-learning MHP application with a highly complex interactive user interface and integration of external sensor values.

Plan

After the BDR meeting end of September 2003 the implementation phase will start in November and shall finish in May 2004. The tests with the demonstrator shall run until July 2004. The final presentation shall be end of August 2004.

Current Status

Deficiencies of procured set-top boxes have prevented the project to go ahead with implementation. STB suppliers did not offer alternative suitable models and the parallel lack of development of the MHP applications market in the last year convinced the project team to reconsider its strategy and stop the project.
