2. To define with system study the main drivers to highligth the Payload architecture
3. To anticipate neighboring hardwares (antenna, converters, harness…) with long lead time developments
The objective of the MultiMeDIA study was:
To define a typical mission requiring high density over large coverage for internet and conjointly with a mission ‘s large coverage. This study enhances ability to deal with irregular and regular meshing, by means of huge quantity of spots, and specific adequacy between high capacity of service and scope of the satellite.
The study suggested

4. To orient development of hardwares to reduce footprint and mass
The objective of the IOT study was:
To improve technics and fastness for testing multiple beams configuration related to HDTV and MMDIA mission.
The objective of the harness study was:
To reduce the harness mass and improve the harness competitiveness. On multi-beam Ka band mission the mass of the harness represents an important part of the repeater mass, and it has to be optimized as it is for the equipment mass in order to provide an optimized payload mass.
Challenges
For the HDTV mission, the key issues were:
- To define the best definition of frequency resources (spots, spot size, capacity per DMA…)
- To cope with high power constraints (dissipation, hardware qualification…)
- To accommodate the platform (quantity of hardware and waveguide)
- To accommodate antennas related to large reflector
- To finalise the best definition of antenna gain in case of various combination of spot size
- To improve flexibility vs. EIRP and C/(I+N) over the coverage
For the MMDIA mission, the key issues were:
- To define the need with respect to real opportunity from the market
- The best definition of frequency resources (spots, spot size, capacity per beam…)
- To cope with significant frequency bandwidth (dissipation, hardware qualification…)
- To accommodate a huge quantity of hardware and waveguide
- To accommodate antennas related to large reflector
- The best definition of antenna gain in case of various combination of spot size
- To make applications reusable for the first opportunity
Operational constraints IOT key issues were:
- Propose a significant time saving without shadowing performances of the payload
For the harness improvement, the key issue were:
- To reduce the size of the WR51 flange, this taking care of the EMC performance. A good compromise had to be found between the number and type of screws and the targeted EMC performance.
- To reduce the mass of the waveguide support through optimisation or use of multi-waveguide support, which is also an issue to save mass
- To reduce the mass of the waveguide support through the use of new materials
- To Optimize the panel fixing to reduce the mass

Features
Features of HDTV mission were:
One way link from Gateway to users.
Service areas: USA.
Type of coverage: National shaped and regional beam covering as required by the Design Market Analysis.
Regional beam/national: Irregular meshing beam ranging from phi 0.4-0.5-0.7°/CONUS coverage.
USA Frequency plan: Rx: 24.75-25.25 GHz / Tx: 17.3-17.8GHz.

Features of the mission are parametrics because of flexible possible configurations and conjoint developments attached to them.
Based on both four antennas and a population equally distributed, a regular meshing here below can be considerd:
98 beams with phi 0.4°
79 beams with phi 0.45°
64 beams with phi 0.5°
