The overall objective of the project is to develop an extension of IDC's SuperFlex DVP IP multicasting product line that is capable of ultra-high speed multi-carrier operation. The priority focus of the project will be on developing a next generation of DVB-S/S2 receivers only, as these are the most cost and performance critical components of a system.
The outcome of this project will provide IDC with an advanced IP multicasting product line that expands our DVB-S2 product offering for broadband applications (e.g. IPTV, digital cinema, syndicated TV, etc.).
This project addresses the need for higher throughput and carrier flexibility in satellite receiver products in response to industry requirements for enhanced throughput and reliability in satellite systems. The development of high-speed multi-carrier satellite receivers will be a key factor in the continued expansion of satellite data delivery versus terrestrial alternatives.
The benefits of the new receiver product line described above will increase the competitive advantage enjoyed by International Datacasting over its peers, due to the availability of lower-cost higher performance satellite receivers, which are the most cost critical components of any system.
The primary feature of the new receiver product line is to enable multi-carrier operation at ultra high data rates, in excess of 100 Mbps. The product line must operate at DVB-S2, but also maintain compatibility with existing DVB-S systems. This will allow for high levels of throughput and redundancy to be achieved in a smaller device footprint. The result is lower capital equipment cost with an expanded feature set.
The project plan has 4 main phases:
- Analysis of Commercial Requirements to determine performance goals and necessary features for the new product line,
- Specification of the performance and feature requirements of the new products (Design Specification),
- Develop prototype units which should meet the Design Specification,
- Test prototypes to validate performance.
