Objective: The objective of the activity is to study concepts and design technologies for extending/supporting the terrestrial quantum internet developments with space-based connectivity.Targeted Improvements: Enabler for long (100km) quantum internet connections. Fibre losses limit the range of connections to less than 100 km and longer links can only be realised using satellites. Description:1) Reviewing/surveying of applications based on the quantum internet (e.g. connecting quantum computers, sensors...) 2) Defining Quantum Internet user requirements and deriving requirements for the space-based links. 3) Designing a breadboard simulating space-based quantum internet links in laboratory environment and the first iteration of a space payload and ground receiver. Overcoming the distance limitations for fibre-based quantum internet by using satellite-based quantum links. This will enable future extensions of the quantum internet to connect quantum computers, quantum sensors and other quantum communication applications over distances >>1000 km including intercontinental distances.Procurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl.
