Small Geostationary Satellite (SGEO)

With the successful mating of the payload and platform modules, another important milestone has been reached in the development of the SmallGEO Hispasat AG1 spacecraft.

The Redsat onboard processor, a key to providing next-generation broadband through far better signal quality and speed at lower cost, is ready to be added to the first SmallGEO satellite platform for launch next year.

The Small Geostationary Satellite initiative is aimed at the development of a general purpose small geostationary satellite platform which will enable European industry s to compete effectively in the commercial telecom market for small platforms.

Another step has been taken towards making Europe an even more efficient competitor in the global satellite telecommunications market, with the testing of the new SmallGEO satellite platform at ESTEC, ESA's testing centre in the Netherlands.
