Description
Priority 2: Priority 2 activities will only be initiated on the explicit request ofat least one delegation.
The objective of the activity is to design, prototype and make a field trial demonstration of mobile Ka-band receptionof multimedia contents for vehicles.
Targeted Improvements:
The proposed activity will demonstrate in a realistic satellite-broadcasting environment the effectiveness of advanced receiver technologies in Ka-band for multimedia content distribution to cars.
Description:
This activity will be instrumental for generating and validating new market opportunities. The distribution of multimedia content to vehicles (in particular cars) is considered an emerging market opportunity also in view of the increasing availability of Ka-band systems. The most suitable physical layer waveform is investigated in a system study run under ARTES 5.1 7C.033 Mobile Ka-band Multimedia Receiver for Vehicles (in workplan 2014) that will be completed in 2015. In addition, this project is analysing the costs and evaluating the economic feasibility of such a content delivery service.
The proposed activity will build on the outcome of this project to implement in a prototype modem the advanced physical layer waveform selected for an effective demodulation and detection of the transmitted multimedia content. The activity shall include the development of a prototype test-bed including:
a) the generation of multimedia streams based on the proposed air interface;
b) the satellite transponder capacity in Ka-band for live testing;
c) the user terminal to demodulate and to decode the transmitted signals.
This prototype will allow the demonstration of the potential benefits of broadcasting services to vehicles in a realistic testing environment in the Ka-band.
Procurement Policy: C(2) = A relevant participation (in terms of quality and quantity) of non-primes (incl. SMEs) is required. For additional information please go to EMITS news "Industrial Policy measures for non-primes, SMEs and R&D entities in ESA programmes".
